The Australian Federal Police is claiming today to have rounded up the "self-proclaimed leader" of Lulzsec, the community of hackers behind a string of game company and website attacks in 2011.


I say "claim" because American authorities said the same thing in 2011 when they busted Hector Xavier Monsegur. Whether the unnamed man in question here is actually the leader of the group, took over from Monsegur after he was turned out or is just full of shit is unclear.


According to a report on Kotaku AU, he was arrested at his workplace in Sydney yesterday. The man is reportedly "a well respected IT Professional working at the local branch of an international company".


He's been charged with “unauthorised modification of data to cause impairment”, and if found guilty could spend up to ten years in prison.
